DietOmnivorous. Quality cichlid pellets and sticks with frozen foods and some vegetable matter. They sift mouthfuls of sand for food, so fine substrate is essential.
CompatibilityGenerally peaceful for their size but territorial. Keep with other robust, larger peaceful fish. Not for tiny or aggressive community tanks, and avoid small fish that may be harassed.
SetupLarge aquarium with a fine sand substrate for sifting, plus driftwood, rocks and anchored plants. Strong filtration and clean, soft, slightly acidic water are important.
Care LevelWeekly 25-30% partial water changes and stable parameters. These earth eaters need plenty of open sand; maintain substrate depth and monitor water quality continuously.
Please ensure you can provide a suitable, cycled tank before ordering. Young bettas may mature after arrival.
