DietPrimarily vegetarian. Feed quality sinking pellets and flakes plus blanched vegetables such as cucumber, zucchini and spinach. They will graze on algae and natural film in the tank.
CompatibilityGenerally peaceful when young but can become territorial and semi-aggressive as adults. Best housed singly, in groups of equal size, or with robust tankmates. Avoid keeping with similarly shaped algae eaters and slow-moving fish that may be harassed.
SetupAdult algae eaters are active and large, needing a good-sized planted tank with rocks, driftwood and open swimming space. Use strong filtration and floating or broad-leaved plants for shade.
Care LevelWeekly 25% partial water changes and a consistent vegetable-rich diet. Monitor for aggression as fish mature; rearrange the scape if territorial behaviour appears.
Please ensure you can provide a suitable, cycled tank before ordering. Young bettas may mature after arrival.
