DietOmnivorous — high-quality Malawi cichlid pellets and vegetable-based flakes, supplemented with occasional frozen foods. Avoid excessive protein for Mbuna species.
CompatibilityAggressive and territorial — Malawi cichlids are best kept crowded in a species tank to spread aggression. Research the mix; avoid combining Mbuna with Peacocks and Haps.
SetupLarge tank with rockwork, caves and plenty of open swimming space. Sand substrate, strong filtration and hard, alkaline water. High stocking levels reduce aggression.
Care LevelWeekly 30-40% water changes — Malawi cichlids are heavy waste producers and sensitive to nitrate buildup. Maintain hard, alkaline water.
Please ensure you can provide a suitable, cycled tank before ordering. Young bettas may mature after arrival.
